L tyrosine ADHD

L-tyrosine is a form of tyrosine that is one of the 20 non-essential amino acids that make up protein in your body.

Is L-tyrosine comparable to Adderall?

No, it's not the case.

Adderall is an amphetamine, which is a central nervous system stimulant. It improves memory, focus, and attention by increasing dopamine and norepinephrine levels in the brain.

As a precursor to dopamine, tyrosine does not stimulate the same amounts of brain activity as Adderall. In fact, the exact amount required to reach these levels is unknown at this time.

"At first look, the postulated link between dopamine and ADHD symptoms would suggest that different types of therapy medicines might be useful," Matthew Edelstein, a licensed psychologist in Baltimore, says.

He continues, "There is no empirical evidence to support the use of L-tyrosine in the treatment of symptoms associated with ADHD."
